For affordable, luxury lodging in Orlando, rent a condo!

Pool at Blue Heron Resort Orlando

It is no secret that there are ‘quite a few’ lodging options in Orlando.  And most everyone who plans a first trip to Disney looks for hotels on property.  For those of us who fall on the ‘pickier’ side, the nicest of the Disney Hotels and Resorts can be a big budget buster.   Also, a traditional hotel layout lacks separate spaces for the inevitable and imperative downtime for families with small children or for multi-generational families traveling together.  This is why a condo rental makes sense in many situations.

For the same price as a standard hotel room, the right condo can provide luxury features, communal space for a family to visit, and private spaces as well.  The full size kitchens can also save money on meals, which as anyone who has been there knows, is not exactly a bargian.

But what about the ubiquitous and awesome pools and amenities that are a ‘must have’ in Orlando?  You are in luck!  Many of the nicer condos have wonderful amenities that surpass what you will find at standard hotels and are often as good as some of the nicer resorts as well.

For example, The Blue Heron Beach Resort  has an amazing heated pool (although it can still be a bit chilly in the winter months), washer and dryer, full kitchen and many dining options (including Starbucks!) within walking distance.

The resort even offers complimentary transportation to the park, although you’ll need advance reservations and departure times are limited.  Only 1 mile away from the WDW park entrance and less than 10 miles from the other parks, it is conveniently  located.  Many units have lovely views of Lake Bryan or the fireworks over the parks (a long way away, but still visible).

A one bedroom condo, which also includes a bunk bed for two kids, rents for as low as $79/night in the low season per a VRBO listing where you can typically find the best deals.  This would be a perfect option for a couple or a family with a kid or two in tow.  A 2-bedroom unit rents for around $72/nt (low season) to $179/nt (high season).  Really a great deal.

Another good vacation condo rental option can be found at Vista Cay Resort, a new Italian Villa themed resort, close to the Universal Resorts and Sea World, with a friendly staff, easy check in/check out and very nice amenities.  There is also a Publix grocery store and many restaurants just around the corner from the large property.  A 3-bedroom unit rents nightly from $139-189 or $649-$899 per week depending on season, making the price to value ratio hard to beat.

The amenities, space, quality, and location are great at both of these locations.   I highly recommend this option for families considering a Orlando vacation, if you can bear to distance yourself from Micky for a bit, that is.
